Ah, the Camel Clutch. A move that has used by hated foreign heels for years and years in the WWE. The Camel Clutch is a great finisher because it's so easy to use and looks genuinely painful. But who came up with the move? It's was the Iron Sheikh, right? No,sorry, it was the Original Sheikh, Ed Farhat, yeah? Wrong and wrong. The camel clutch was actually invented by Gory Guerrero, the father of the late, great Eddie Guerrero. Gory began using the move in the 1950s and 60s in Mexico where it was called la de a caballo (horse-mounting choke). Gory and El Santo used the move and it became so popular that the Original Sheikh and then The Iron Sheikh started to use it as well. No, The Iron Sheikh didn't invent the move, despite what he and WWE will try and tell you. The ill-fated Muhammad Hassan certainly wishes he would have known his wrestling history after he told Eddie Guerrero to stop using 'his' finisher in 2005. Guerrero asked Hassan who invented the move and when the reply was 'The Iron Sheikh', Latino Heat promptly gave him a stern talking to. In wrestling, respect is everything. If you're going to use a move for a finisher, you should at least known where it came from.
