JBL - WWE Champion

Current SmackDown Live! commentator John 'Bradshaw' Layfield won a remarkable 24 total championships during his time as an active competitor, winning the WWE Championship, Intercontinental, United States, European and Hardcore Championships and Tag Team Championships in becoming the 10th Grand Slam Champion in company history.

The fact that 18 of those championships were Hardcore Championship reigns should be ignored, but JBL is a household name in pro wrestling nonetheless. If the man previously known as Bradshaw had not undergone a dramatic character revamp in 2004 however it is unlikely that much of that success would have come his way. On March 23 2004 Bradshaw became JBL and everything changed.

By that time Bradshaw had already won his 18 Hardcore Championships and his European and three Tag Team Championships, but it was as the rich Texan residing in New York that JBL achieved greatness. JBL won the WWE Championship before going on to win Intercontinental and United States gold later on, eventually retiring and become a full time commentator.

Born in the middle of Wales in the middle of the 1980's, John can't quite remember when he started watching wrestling but he has a terrible feeling that Dino Bravo was involved. Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
