WrestleMania 39's opening night was a triumph for traditional tag-team wrestling.

Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn put aside on/off beef to link up and stare down one of the greatest brother units in the history of the biz: Jimmy and Jey Uso. The latter's Undisputed WWE Tag Titles were up for grabs, and it was pretty much nailed on that KO and Sami would win the things to close the show out on a high. In hindsight, that had to happen due to the disappointment of Cody Rhodes failing to beat Roman Reigns a mere 24 hours later.

At times, Owens and Zayn reverted to their days as Kevin Steen and El Generico in ROH, and that was a good thing. They were visibly giddy about the thought of headlining WrestleMania together, and this likely meant as much (if not more) to Kev than main eventing the prior year's supercard against childhood icon Steve Austin.

Meanwhile, Sami had been working an unlikely role in The Bloodline to maximum effect, and there was a lot to unpack with his ties to Jimmy, Jey and their cousin Roman all laid bare. The word "cinema" was tossed around an awful lot back then, but it's hard to argue that WWE TV became art worthy of the big screen.

'Mania 39 was indicative of that. Night one's headline attraction was a red hot display of everything that's right about tag work. Together, this quartet laid down the gauntlet for future tag bouts on such a grand stage, and it was obvious they had nothing left in the tank once it was all said and done.

That's because real-life friends and real-life brothers gave everything.
