101 Shocking Wrestling Plans You Won't Believe Almost Happened

64. Super Maria

Question: Have you ever wanted to see WWE run a babyface and heel double life version of Hannah Montana? No, well just as well Maria Kanellis didn't get her own way before initially being released by the company in 2010 then. She'd pitched that double life gimmick, one that'd see her perform as the ditzy person fans already knew and another, darker heel character.

In time, those face and heel personas would collide and come together to merge into...Super Maria. Yes, yes that sounds like Nintendo gender-swapping Mario for an offshoot video game in the 1980s (like Ms. PacMan). WWE wanted nothing to do with it, because they didn't see much scope for Maria on the roster generally by early-2010.

Therefore, her final few appearances on the books were fairly lowkey and then she went off to reinvent herself in Ring Of Honor and on the independent circuit. Super Maria wouldn't show up in ROH or elsewhere either, so maybe Kanellis gave up on the whole idea once WWE gave it a thumbs down.

The actual merger would've happened when Maria smashed a mirror, theoretically sucking her into an alternate universe where good and bad became one. It would've been worth exploring, if nothing else, but creative wanted to concentrate on others things and that was very much that.

Maria's last match during her first run on the roster was a mixed tag on Superstars. There, she linked up with Matt Hardy and The Great Khali vs. Hart Dynasty trio Natalya, Tyson Kidd and David Hart Smith.
