It seems that we still don't quite appreciate this enough. Not only is A.J. Styles not being wasted on Impact, but he's in WWE and he's the freaking champion of the company!

Styles has just had one hell of a year. In Nov. of last year, we heard rumors of him negotiating with WWE, but had no idea if they would come to fruition. We'd heard for years that top management wasn't interested in bringing him on-board. Then when he showed up at Royal Rumble, we were ecstatic, but we didn’t know what Vince would see in him long term. After a loss to Chris Jericho at WrestleMania, it seemed he’d be an upper midcard guy for the next few years. Still not a bad place to land.

Then a pair of pay-per-view main events against Roman Reigns solidified that Styles was more than capable of working the WWE style. He started cutting the best promos of his career, and established himself as a top performer in the company. The unthinkable then happened as he not only wrestled John Cena, but he was able to defeat him on multiple occassions.

Even though Styles is a heel, he’s one of the most loved wrestlers on the roster. It’s a bit of a shame he didn’t start there a decade ago, but he’s quickly making up for lost time. If we had predicted how he would have done by Survivor Series 2016 a year ago, this would have basicaly been the best case scenario.

As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
