11 Female Wrestlers Who Were In WWE At The Wrong Time
6. Layla
As the third official winner of WWE's Diva Search competition, Layla went on to do great things in her career. She started out having limited wrestling abilities. But through hard work and determination, she really found herself in the ring, complete with an impressive move set.
After her stint in WWE's version of ECW, where she was downgraded to a dance group named Extreme Exposé, alongside Kelly Kelly and Brooke Adams, as well as a manager for William Regal on Raw, Layla found her best years on SmackDown. She formed an alliance with Michelle McCool, and named their team "LayCool."
The team would regularly bully the babyfaces of the SmackDown women's division such as Eve Torres and Tiffany. However, the most prominent LayCool storyline involved Mickie James, whom the mean girl duo referred to as "Piggy James", making them into even bigger heels. They even became Co-Women's Champions, literally splitting the title in half.
After Michelle departed WWE, Layla found herself solo, becoming the Divas Champion upon her return from injury in 2012. After losing the title, Layla was mostly featured on WWE Main Event and Superstars, secondary programmings on the WWE Network, until she finally retired in 2015. While most of Layla's career was during the time when the women's weren't given enough opportunities, Layla did manage to make the most out of it during her final years.
She retired right before the Women's Revolution began and would have most likely done some great things during this era if she stuck around.
