9. Vince McMahon: If I Think It's Funny, Then It's Funny, Dammit
Vince McMahon has a twisted sense of humor. He thinks that making fun of JRs Bells palsy, humiliating Mickie James for alleged weight issues, and exploiting the deaths of Eddie Guerrero and Paul Bearer for a cheap laugh make him funny. He also thinks that the youngest members of the WWE Universe think that suffering succotash jokes are both funny and relevant. Hell, he thinks that monkeys are the funniest thing ever. If only someone had the guts to tell him none of that is funny at all. The commentators, especially Michael Cole & JBL are Vinces mouthpieces; what they say is more or less what he tells them to say. So when theyre talking about nonsense and random pop culture references, or when a Superstar cuts a terrible, obviously-scripted promo, thats Vince talking. As many commentators and authors (this one included) have argued before, Vince McMahon is incredibly out of touch with the contemporary wrestling fan and with pop culture. Vince has been described as a guy who works up to twenty hours a day and has little time for a social life. How can such a workaholic have any notion of what modern fans like, think about, or find funny? Vinces sense of humor is usually inappropriate, especially considering WWEs circumstances. He mocks JR, has his stars call women fat, and scripts Superstars to make not-so-subtle homophobic comments, all during a time when WWE has its B.A. STAR campaign, and when social media opens every company to intense public scrutiny. Vince needs to have someone else do WWEs comedy writing; preferably someone with a greater understanding of whats funny than a micromanaging workaholic.
