11 Misconceptions About WWE You Probably Believe
7. Vince McMahon "Couldn't Wait To Fire" Ultimate Warrior
The infamous "Self-Destruction Of The Ultimate Warrior" DVD was just another example of WWE at their most arrogant during the monopoly years - a shameless attempt at character assassination towards a figure who was doing a good enough job of that himself in real life anyway.
Warrior's legacy had rapidly moved between legendary to strange to unpleasant following his politically strained WWE exit in 1996, bust of a WCW stint in 1998, and homophobic and racist public speaking tour of college campuses in the mid-2000s. The market leader had their own hatchet job lined up too, and kicked it into high gear when discussion moved to his first exit from the company in 1991. The documentary told the tale of a cruel and vindictive Warrior holding owner Vince McMahon up for cash ahead of the heavily promoted SummerSlam main event alongside Hulk Hogan against The Triangle Of Terror, and McMahon as the hero of the locker room booting Warrior out of it as soon as he left the ring.
Whilst this wasn't even close to the truth, the fact that Warrior was welcomed back in 1992, 96 and was offered a monster deal in 1997 of all periods highlights the bluster peddled in the interest of supporting the brutal and insecure narrative.
