11 Things We Learned From Tyson Kidd & Nattie On Talk Is Jericho

4. The Montreal Screwjob

Jericho asks them how they felt when the infamous screwjob went down at Survivor Series 1997. They both say it was difficult because both Shawn and Bret are their favorite wrestlers, as well as Bret being family. Nattie says that with Bret you felt his emotions more than his moves, and Kidd adds that he was ahead of the curve bringing in realism as opposed to a lot of the more cartoonish stuff of his era. Nattie opines that the screwjob really shattered Bret, saying that both men believed they were the best and were ultra-competitive. She said they had different styles but they both believed in themselves so much. Tyson says he remembers seeing them together at show in 1994 and they were friends. Jericho says that's the thing that hurt Bret the most was that they were turned against each other by Vince. He remarks that Vince will never admit it but he likes it when guys have real heat between them because it comes out in their matches and angles. Chris says that - in addition to Hart viewing Vince as a father figure - really compounded Bret's feelings of betrayal. Nattie agrees, saying that the two men had a very close relationship and it hurt Bret deeply. She adds that it was the beginning of a downward spiral for Bret and mentions that his stress may have contributed to his stroke.
