John Cena has been the man in WWE for a decade. For the first time, he has decided to walk away from his role. That breaks a ten year cycle, moving Cena and WWE into a new phase of their relationship. It breaks the monotony of a generation. The kids who were cheering Cena in 2005 are now adults, it is time to move the narrative forward. Cena's actions have forced a progressive change, challenging WWE to move themselves on from the obsession of a decade long era. What comes next is a mystery, hence why the initial reaction is to fear it. The unknown at first is a bad thing. But it could ultimately be a very beneficial change. It looks like one era is over, will the next era be a new wild success? Fans can only hope so. At the very least, Cena has made a progressive step.
