11 Ups & 5 Downs From Impact Wrestling (May 12)

4. Frankele, She's Quite Good

After her surprise appearance on an episode of Locker Room Talk, Kimber Lee made her official Impact Wrestling in-ring debut this week against Havok. It's a huge surprise she never got a major crack at the big time in NXT, but alas, she's settling perfectly into her new home, starting with a mammoth victory over an equally mammoth opponent.

Speaking of surprises, your writer didn't necessarily expect to see Lee portraying the role of an underdog. Seeing as she came into Locker Room Talk full of confidence, it would have been easy to believe she'd be treated as Havok's equal here. Nevertheless, the artist formerly known as Abbey Laith put in her best effort here, wearing Havok down with every strike. A further surprise ended the match, as Lee blasted Havok in the face with a pair of brass knuckles to score her first pinfall inside an Impact Wrestling ring. Not exactly the cleanest of wins there, but it didn't taint the moment in any way.

Building on a repeated comment in this column week after week, Impact's knockouts division is on fire at the moment. Between the established stars to the recently-signed names, there's a who's who of women's independent wrestling currently under contract to the promotion. Not only that, but for the most part, they all get the opportunity to shine. Obviously, there are some stars who get held in a higher regard compared to the rest (your Tessa Blanchards, your Taya Valkyries, et al), but recent episodes of Impact have seen these newer names being booked extremely well. More of this, please.
