11 WrestleMania 42 Card Predictions After WWE Royal Rumble 2026

3. Gunther vs. Chris Jericho

SURPRISE!

Chris Jericho is technically still with AEW, so there's no surefire movement on a jump back to WWE quite yet. He wasn't in the Rumble as anticipated, but that doesn't necessarily mean Jericho won't be with the E in time for 'Mania. If he is, then he'd be the ideal pick to play the role of Gunther's next retirement victim.

People know 'Y2J' is coming in for a retirement tour anyway. He'd get the Hall Of Fame treatment, work at WrestleMania, wrestle a few other select matches here or there, then call it a career and either become part of the commentary team or act as an ambassador in between Fozzy tours.

The promos he could cut vs. Gunther alone would make this one worth it. Jericho has significant history and varying levels of respect for Bill Goldberg, John Cena and AJ Styles, so he could bring those guys up and vow revenge on their behalf against the 'Ring General'.

Responding, Gunther would laugh his occasionally merry face off (anyone else still getting used to the sight of this dude smiling like he's just won big on a scratchcard?!) and promise to make Jericho tap/pass out in Las Vegas.

Predicted Winner: Gunther, but it doesn't need to be tied to a strict retirement stipulation. Yes, he's earning quite the reputation as a career killer, but WWE will want to squeeze more than one solitary bout out of Chris Jericho. Doing the honours on his first night back would signify that Jericho is content to be a team player, and it'd add even more lustre to Gunther's career best run.
