Fans were spoiled with the longest ever version of Ariya Daivari's theme music as WWE used his entrance to run through the international announce teams, but a rare special arrival in a sports car on pay-per-view spoke to how seriously the company taking Tony Nese's first major defence.

It appears to have taken Buddy Murphy losing a title he looked willing to die for to actually help get it over - Nese could prove to be an exceptional successor on the evidence of this enjoyable encounter, but WWE can still expect many of these high risk holds and big bumps (and Champion and Challenger gifted loads to the show) to play out to silence until the atmosphere on the weekly show is somehow improved.

Nese retained here as fans showed passing interest down the stretch, but the bouts of silence should express why the company can't go in half-cocked again. The indifference ultimately failed Neville and Murphy in 2017 and 2018 respectively - for Nese not to be a similar victim of unrewarded internal acclaim, he has to ensure he's featured like this again and again, even without Daniel Bryan et al willing to take the pre-show place.
