12 Greatest Heel WWE Champions of All Time

6. The Rock

The Rock debuted in 1996 as Rocky Maivia, a clean-cut babyface. Cue widespread boredom and dislike from the majority of the crowds. The Rock is now a multi-time world champion and a successful movie star. Out of the adversity of his debut was a diamond waiting to be unearthed, and in 1998 he became at the time the youngest WWF Champion in company history. The Rock was so charismatic that he left you hanging off of every word, and he drew more and more disgust from the fans every week because he could put them down in a manner never before seen. His catchphrases are still infectious and are often quoted in day-to-day life, and it all began by being the first superstar to side with the evil Vince McMahon and make an easy life for himself. Perhaps the most striking element of the Rock€™s initial championship reigns was that they coincided with the rise in popularity of another massive figure of the attitude era: Mankind. The feud between the Rock and Mankind was so passionate, so well done, so unpredictable, that fans would tune in every week to see who would walk out the WWF Champion. They made the championship credible despite having such short title reigns, and when the Rock eventually survived this feud he was a bona fide superstar, and the obvious antitode for the top face Stone Cold. Despite The Rock being utilised mainly as a face after that point, his time as a heel champion made him what he is today €“ a global megastar.
