The Hennig family name has been associated with wrestling excellence for decades. It started with Larry, who was trained by Verne Gagne, and became a big star for the AWA in the 1960s, before a major knee injury forced him into a temporary retirement. 'The Axe' returned the following year, competing primarily in the NWA, while ushering his son Curt into the business.

Otherwise know as 'Mr. Perfect', Curt is remembered as one of the greatest in-ring technicians of all-time. His career took him all over the country, and he really rose to prominence in WWE in the late ‘80s, when he embarked on a lengthy undefeated streak, and starred in a feud with Hulk Hogan. He passed away in 2003, leaving a sizeable legacy behind, and huge shoes for his own son to fill.

Curtis Axel is responsible for keeping his family’s spirit alive today. With a ring name referencing both of his forebears (his father’s forename and grandfather’s nickname), Axel has faded into obscurity in 2017, but has been under WWE employ for over 10 years, and has an Intercontinental Title reign to his name. His sister Amy also worked in WWE developmental from 2008-09, but hasn’t wrestled in close to seven years.
