12 Greatest Wrestling Dynasties Of All Time
6. Von Erich
One of professional wrestling’s first real dynasties, the Von Erich family story is rife with tragedy. Their legacy starts with father Fritz, who terrified audiences with his Nazi-esque gimmick in the 1960s, and eventually formed World Class Championship Wrestling - a promotion known for its high production values and pioneering use of television syndication.
Fritz's firstborn Jack tragically died at the age of six. His other five sons were all marketed as future wrestling champions. Sadly, Chris, David, Mike, and Kerry all passed away before their time, and Kevin, his second child, is the only one still with us today. Regarded as the most athletic Von Erich, Kevin was an eye-catching performer known for his perfect dropkick. He achieved great success in WCCW, and played a pivotal role in the family’s feud with the Fabulous Freebirds.
While Chris and Mike struggled to cope with the business’ demands, and David was being built-up as the future of the NWA prior to his passing, Kerry was the family’s most famous name. A major star in the ‘80s, he defeated Ric Flair for the NWA Heavyweight Championship in front of 45,000 fans back in 1984, but a near-fatal motorcycle accident forced the partial amputation of his right foot, and triggered the painkiller addiction that ultimately led to his tragic death.
