8. Bret Hart In WCW

Spirit Squad
WWE

The Montreal Screwjob is one of the most well-known and overly discussed events in the history of wrestling. At the end of the incident, Bret Hart looks defiantly into the hard cam and spells WCW into the air with his fingers in a moment of gutsy defiance. It suggests that taking his talents to WWE's main competitor is going to be something that he makes sure is something they regret for the rest of their miserable existence.

The reality of what came to pass is a far sadder state of affairs. By the time Bret made his WCW debut in December, 1997, the company was a mess of behind-the-scenes politicking and lack of professionalism that would crush Bret's spirit in record time.

Due to a non-compete clause, Hart's first meaningful moment in WCW would come at the messy end of Hulk Hogan's match with Sting at Starrcade '97. He overruled what seemed like a perfectly fine decision in a confusing moment that derailed a year long feud between Hogan and The Stinger, and things wouldn't get much better from there. Bret cut a miserable and crestfallen figure for his entire duration with WCW, before Goldberg's mistimed kick led to a career-ending concussion.
