12 MORE Weird Periods WWE Icons Would Like You To Forget
4. Latter Day Dean Ambrose
Both as Jon Moxley and in the first few years of being Dean Ambrose, the passion this performer has for pro wrestling is both infectious and devastating. The intensity with which he delivers every second on our screens is matched by the highest level of performance, with his character always developing new facets and serving the situation he's in to the highest standards.
The last few years of his employment in WWE couldn't be more antithetical to this. Whether it was situations like having to feud with Chris Jericho over a potted plant or just generally having to provide work that only dictatorial Emperor Vince McMahon could find entertaining, it was difficult to watch a man who felt so alive in his first few years look so dead behind the eyes.
Moxley revealed that the straw that broke the camel's back was when he was asked to be overly paranoid of catching diseases from fans, pre-COVID, quite hauntingly, but the truth is that Moxley was employed by WWE in an era where McMahon was in the creative doldrums. If your spark came from earning money, that was just fine, but Moxley's passion to deliver great work meant that Ambrose had to be put out to pasture. He left after WrestleMania 35, going on to become one of the most consistently brilliant pro wrestlers on Earth.
