12 Things You Need To Know About Sting's WWE Deal And Future

9. WWE Let The News Leak

The apparent 'leak' about Sting's WWE debut this past weekend was in fact part of WWE's marketing strategy. They wanted and expected the news to get out on sites like this one. It would create a natural buzz and get people signing up to the WWE Network. That strategy worked, as Sting was a massive trending story on Sunday before Survivor Series even started. The sources that had originally leaked the story to PWInsider had deliberately done so to stir interest. Indeed, the promise of Sting was the most exciting thing about the entire Survivor Series show. Fans were waiting for him all night and were overjoyed when he finally turned up at the climax. WWE's deliberate leak was a smart marketing twist and surely sold a few extra viewers over the weekend. As for fans who complained about spoilers, blame the WWE, they never wanted this to be a surprise. The Wrestling Observer Radio commented that WWE did nothing to hide Sting's being in St.Louis on Sunday.
