12 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About The Royal Rumble

6. The 40 Man Rumble In 2011 That Was A Mistake

The 2011 Royal Rumble match is the longest Rumble match in the history of the event. It lasted 1 hour, 9 minutes and 53 seconds. The reason it went so long is because WWE billed it as the "biggest Rumble match ever" by announcing that 40 men would be in it. Alberto Del Rio was the 38th entrant in the match. He was the favorite going into it along with John Cena, who is always a favorite to win anything. Del Rio only eliminated two guys and lasted around ten minutes in the match. It looked like he won the match when he tossed out Orton near the end. It turned out that Santino was still in the match and he nearly tossed out Del Rio until ADR avoided it and he dumped out Santino for the win. Late last year there were rumors that WWE was going to bring back the 40 Man Rumble match just because they figured they could bring back some ECW legends for it. The thought was that they could easily get 30 or more WWE guys in it and that they could bring in the likes of the Dudley Boys, Rob Van Dam, Tommy Dreamer, Stevie Richards, The Blue Meanie and guys like that. Who knows, maybe some will be in this year. It was just an idea. The good thing is that WWE came to their senses because they must have remembered that the 40 Man Rumble was a bad idea. It just dragged on too much. There were a lot of guys in the match that really had no business being in there and they obviously had no chance to win it either. That 40 Man Rumble concept is almost never mentioned anymore. It's something WWE wants us to forget.
