It might be months later than it should have been and endured a bunch of unnecessary twists and turns, but Rusev Day finally came to SmackDown for Christmas.

For the past couple years, Rusev has endured ridiculously poor booking that seemed designed to sabotage him when he managed to get himself over with fans. The latest example was Rusev Day, a silly gimmick that nonetheless caught on with fans and slowly turned him face for the first time on the main roster.

While you might have thought that he would have won the United States Championship at WrestleMania, fans had to wait an extra eight months for a holiday treat. With Rusev’s victory as the year ends, it caps a long journey for the Bulgarian Brute and closes 2018 on a high note for him.
