12 WWE Rematches That Are Better Than The Original Classic

8. Eddie Guerrero Vs Rey Mysterio (WCW World War 3 1997)

Any time that Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio went at it in the ring, the results were usually never less than very good. Their Mask vs Cruiserweight Title match at Halloween Havoc '97 was one of the best matches of the year, possibly of all time. Long before they were feuding over custody of Dominik (remember that?) Rey and Eddie were tearing it up in the ring. Following the Halloween Havoc stunner WCW booked a rematch for the following month's World War 3 event. The pressure was enormous. Too much, in fact. The match is not as fondly remembered as the Havoc match and the two were accused of trying too hard. They were never going to top it, they said. The pressure to produce got to Guerrero and Mysterio and the upshot was that the match was a mild disappointment. Watching the match now, it's hard to see where all of the criticism comes from. The match is full of revolutionary wrestling and has subtle nods to the Halloween Havoc encounter. Even when they were off their game, Rey and Eddie were still better than the majority of wrestlers on their best day. A similar situation occurred at WrestleMania 21 in 2005 when Rey's ill-fitting mask caused the pair's timing to be off on certain moves and sequences. That match was also good and a reminder of how good Eddie and Rey were together in the ring.
