13 Things We Learned From Finn Balor On Talk Is Jericho

4. The Entrance

The thing that Finn Balor is best known for is his memorable entrance where he slowly slithers to the ring in full demonic bodypaint. Jericho proceeds to put it over as incredible and says that it's going to get over huge, saying that kids will dress up like him for Halloween. He asks where the idea came from, and Balor replies that he felt that The Bullet Club were started to get cheered and he wanted to take away everything that the fans like about him. His original idea was to cover himself entirely from head to toe in solid black paint so that he'd look like a shadow in the ring. Gedo wasn't feeling it, and Karl Anderson told him it was the worst idea he'd ever had, When he brought in the bodypaint artist, she brought with her a portfolio of her work and when he began flipping through it he felt like he was wasting her talents by just having her paint him black, so he met in the middle and had her add some designs. It was intended to be a one time thing but was such a massive hit that he had to work it into doing it on special occasions. He reveals that it's an alcohol-based paint that doesn't smudge so it's easy to work in. He googles body painting whenever he goes to another town to find someone to decorate his body for the occasion. In regards to how he began using in NXT, he said the office liked it and asked about the logistics of doing it there, so they found a guy to come in and paint him black so that he could get in the ring and prove that it wouldn't come off. Finn says the process takes between three and four hours, and he'll only be doing it for big events, although they haven't really looked into it long term. Finn says when he puts the paint on he becomes a different persona, and feels like he can let himself go and release his inner demon. He adds the way he feels, moves and carries himself changes when he puts it on and despite wrestling with it a relatively small amount of times he's started to feel naked without it.
