13 Things We Learned From Finn Balor On Talk Is Jericho

12. Making It To Japan & Working Their Style

Balor says that he had been working in England for a company called Hammerlock Wrestling that was a member of the National Wrestling Alliance, and during one of their yearly conventions in Nashville he got recruited by another NWA guy who worked out of California that offered him a chance to go and train at the Antonio Inoki Dojo. Finn spent about five months training at the Inoki Dojo in Los Angeles and the president of New Japan scouted talent during a trip to the states and invited him to come work in Japan. Jericho then mentions Balor's success in the country and asks how he liked the style over there.
"I loved it. It was very raw, kinda organic, style. It was perfect for me because they stripped down a lot of what I'd already learned in England which was a lot of catch-as-catch-can, and tailored it to their style. It was kind of...I don't want to say an easy transition, but I wasn't always the most charismatic or flamboyant person and I fit in well there."
He feels that the fans took to him because they watched him come up through the system and viewed him as one of their own.
