13 Worst Botches In WWE History

3. Joey Mercury Shatters His Nose

In late 2006, Joey Mercury and Johnny Nitro (together with their manager Melina, known as MNM), were involved in a ladder match €“ a Fatal Fourway between themselves, the Hardy Boyz, Paul London and Brian Kendrick and, bizarrely, William Regal and Dave Taylor, two names not synonymous with the ladder match. Check out the clip to see for yourselves. A ladder match is naturally a spotfest, and a ladder was set up for Jeff Hardy to land on from the top rope, the idea being that it would flip upward and catch both members of MNM in the face. Of course, both men were also supposed to have their arms up to absorb the blow and prevent the ladder actually hitting them in the face. This is professional wrestling, not a demolition derby. Unfortunately, Mercury was out of position and couldn€™t get his arms up in time. The ladder swung upwards and collided straight with his face, which poured blood as he fell from the ring. Astonishingly, given the impact, Mercury only suffered a broken nose. He was taken straight from ringside to the hospital, where it was determined that there was no other serious damage to his face or eyes at all. Orbital bones have been shattered with lesser impacts, but amazingly Joey Mercury was back in the ring only a few weeks later.
