13 Wrestlers In Situations That Scared The Sh*t Out Of Them

5. Owen Breaks The WWF's Biggest Money Train

Can you imagine the 'oh s**t' feeling when you just broke the neck of the biggest rising star in the company? That's what Owen Hart had to be thinking when he badly botched the piledriver on Steve Austin at SummerSlam 1997. The immensely over babyface was being banked on by the WWF as the future of pro wrestling. He was Vince McMahon's new favourite toy - and Owen Hart had just carelessly broke it! The botch left Austin temporarily paralysed in the ring. He managed to get up and finish the match, but was barely able to walk to the back. He never fully recovered, the injury catching up with him in the second half of 1999 and keeping him out for a full year. The move was also responsible for him retiring relatively early in his career in 2003. It isn't exaggerating to say that Owen cost Vince McMahon MILLIONS of dollars that night. All those main events Austin missed out on in 2000, the several years he could have had post 2003, it really was a million dollar breakage in 97. Owen must have felt sick to his stomach at what happened. No one really knows how he managed to screw it up so bad. Hart must have been truly afraid that he'd put Austin in a wheelchair for a life. The Rattlesnake himself was definitely s**t scared, he couldn't feel anything below his neck in those scary first few seconds after the move.
