13 WWE Title Contenders Who Never Stood A Chance

8. Ryback Against CM Punk - Hell In A Cell 2012

Ryback€™s clash with CM Punk at Hell In A Cell in 2012 is one that many believe ended the wrecking ball€™s run in the WWE before it had properly begun. The WWE booked themselves into a corner in this match, making both superstars come off as weak. Ryback was selected to replace an injured John Cena to face Punk for the WWE Championship inside Hell in a Cell. The problem was €“ Punk was never going to lose the match because he was almost certain to face The Rock at the Royal Rumble in a couple of months€™ time and WWE didn€™t want to have Ryback defeated clean. So the creative team decided to have the referee screw Ryback and give Punk the cheap win. This was a flaw of Punk€™s run as champion in late 2012. With a clash with The Rock in January 2013 approaching, it was almost certain he would retain his title until that point.
