Rybacks clash with CM Punk at Hell In A Cell in 2012 is one that many believe ended the wrecking balls run in the WWE before it had properly begun. The WWE booked themselves into a corner in this match, making both superstars come off as weak. Ryback was selected to replace an injured John Cena to face Punk for the WWE Championship inside Hell in a Cell. The problem was Punk was never going to lose the match because he was almost certain to face The Rock at the Royal Rumble in a couple of months time and WWE didnt want to have Ryback defeated clean. So the creative team decided to have the referee screw Ryback and give Punk the cheap win. This was a flaw of Punks run as champion in late 2012. With a clash with The Rock in January 2013 approaching, it was almost certain he would retain his title until that point.
