Edge was a major WWE star for years before he finally got his first main event gig at Rebellion 2002. Up until that point, he'd been mainly booked as a tag team star with Christian, although they'd been so much more than just a tag team. They were one of the very best parts of WWE shows from 2000 to 2001, especially in ladder or TLC matches, which regularly stole the shows. But WWE always had bigger plans for Edge. They broke him away as a singles star, with the intention of a major championship run in 2003. The Rebellion 2002 main event with Brock Lesnar was a UK pay per view, a testing ground for Edge's main event credentials. Unfortunately, he was ruled out with a neck injury for most of 2003, putting his career on hold. But upon his return in 2004, WWE returned to the project of making him a star. He became the biggest heel in the company in 2005, putting on a main event feud with John Cena that is remembered as one of the best rivalries of that decade. His peak of main eventing was when he closed WrestleMania 24 with The Undertaker in 2008.
