Hulk Hogan dominated the WWF for six years straight from 1984. Even after Macho Man Randy Savage became champion in 1988, Hogan was still the real star. Then you had Ultimate Warrior attempting to become the new franchise in 1990, but Hogan still maintained top billing. It wasn't until he left in 1993 that the WWF pay per view scene really moved on to new stars. Yet he only clocked up twenty three main event appearances in that near decade run. That's largely because pay per view was still an irregular occurrence. It wasn't like today with a show every month. Also factor in that Hogan would take time off at various points, sometimes to shoot moves and other times because he simply didn't feel like working. He returned to the WWE in 2002, main eventing several more pay per view shows. He closed SummerSlam 2005 in a match with Shawn Michaels, which descended into a bit of a joke with Michaels' ridiculous overselling.
