This had the potential to fall flat. Multi-person tag team matches always do. Often, it’s the same old story; the match breaks down, everyone hits their finishers, and then it just ends.
There was no sign of that trope here, though. Instead, we got an incredible eight-man tag.
W. Morrissey debuting as the hired gun of Violent By Design perfectly set the tone for what was ahead. Both Morrissey and Joe Doering were on fine form here, beating the sh*t out of James Storm with a stiff boot and a flying crossbody respectively.
The IMPACT mega team worked together expertly throughout this one, at one point using a four-person manoeuvre. They’d been training together for this one; your writer always enjoys when singles wrestlers go the extra mile in such a situation. Chris Sabin superplexed Deaner onto everyone else at ringside, leaving Morrissey to kick the face off of Willie Mack, ending his night with an East River Crossing.
Morrissey continued the assault on ‘Chocolate Thunder’ post-match, shoving referee Brandon Tolle aside as Violent By Design left. This told the story you needed to hear. W. Morrissey isn’t a member of VBD; he was hired by them when they needed someone to cause damage. He’s a completely new wrestler essentially. The star of this match, without question.
