15 Awesome WWE Sagas To Binge-Watch On Netflix Over Christmas
4. The Mega-Powers Explode!
That no good Hulkster was looking at Miss. Elizabeth "with lust in [his] eyes...a-huh!". At least, that's what his old tag-team partner Randy Savage claimed once The Mega-Powers had split heading into WrestleMania V and their showdown for the 'Macho Man's' WWF Title. Elizabeth, who was caught between a rock and a hard place, was neutral on the night.
She represented the divide amongst fans. Some were team Hulk Hogan for good, whilst others loved how hard they'd fallen for Randy since his babyface turn. The federation hatched a masterplan rammed full of little nuances that told the full story of friends who had splintered through jealousy, rage and because they were competing to be the best.
Bruce Prichard is rightly proud of what he and other creative minds like Vince McMahon, Pat Patterson, Hulk and Randy achieved throughout 'The Mega-Powers Explode' timeline. You can check out the absolute best of it by looking at pay-per-views like SummerSlam and Survivor Series 1988, Royal Rumble 1989 and then the in-ring explosion come 'Mania V on Netflix.
Hell, maybe even source some of their work together in WCW for added context if you can't get enough. It's all valid.
The Mega-Powers story began in earnest with Savage's title win at 'Mania IV, but they kept things ticking for an entire calendar year to re-crown Hulk as champ in 1989. There's nothing quite like that late-80s WWF sheen. It was a magical era that'll never be repeated. Drink it in, bask in the glory of Hulkamania meeting Macho Madness, and have yourself a Christmas feast.
Top Recommendation: The showdown at WrestleMania V gives anything you could see today a run for its money.
