Everyone knew that The Rock was one to watch in 1998. The Intercontinental Champion (who had defended the belt against Ken Shamrock earlier in the night) had endured a couple of years in boring babyface limbo before finding his feet as a cocky member of the Nation of Domination. The 1998 Rumble was not one of better Rumble matches. Sure it had its moments like Mick Foley appearing as all three of his WWF characters and the bounty that Vince McMahon placed on eventual winner Steve Austin's head. One of the best things about the match was seeing The Rock give a dominating performance, entering at number four and eliminating several people including Nation members D-Lo Brown and Mark Henry. The Rumble came down to Rock and Austin with The Texas Rattlesnake stunning and tossing The People's Champ to a booming ovation. He may not have won, but The Rock certainly got himself noticed during the match and him and Austin squaring off was a nice look at the future of the WWF.
