Ricky Martel was one of the most underrated workers in WWF history and his appearance in the 1991 Royal Rumble match proves as much. The Model was engaged in a feud with Jake Roberts (which culminated in a dire blindfold match at WrestleMania VII) but that wasn't the real story here. The main talking point of the match was Martel's expert performance and constant elimination teases. There were about twenty or so incidences during the match where it looked like Martel was about to be eliminated, only for him to hang on and stay in the match. Martel was eventually eliminated after a then-record fifty three minutes by The British Bulldog.
