15 Most Unusual Ways To Win A WWE Title

2. Not Beating The Champion

With ever more complicated and convoluted match types being used to decide the fate of championships, the unusual concept of winning a title by not defeating the champion themselves is becoming more and more commonplace. Matches like triple threats, fatal four ways, Elimination Chambers and pretty much any multi-participant contests often remove the pesky obstacle of beating the reigning champion; instead giving participants the opportunity to defeat a fellow challenger to win the gold. Famous examples of people to benefit from the phenomenon include Chris Jericho & Chris Benoit, who removed Kurt Angle of his Eurocontinental titles by beating each other (and not Kurt) in the same match. Triple H took the rules to new levels, and even won a title without even competing with the champion during the match; winning the WWE Championship in an Elimination Chamber match, after the former champion Edge was eliminated within the first three minutes. While being able to lose your title without being pinned is a drawback for a champion, there's plenty of scope for challengers to win a title from someone other than the champion themselves, which sort of defeats the point.
