Triple H suffered a torn groin muscle during a dark match with Bill Goldberg in 2003. As a result, he had to wear some ugly cycling shorts to wrestle in and was considered a doubt going into the big Elimination Chamber match at SummerSlam, a match in which The Game's World Heavyweight Title would be on the line. Most expected Goldberg, who was finally getting the crowd reactions that WWE had hoped he would when they signed him in April, to take the title from the knackered Triple H on the night but it was not to be. Triple H won the match, after doing absolutely nothing, following a sledgehammer shot to a mid-spear Goldberg. It was really, really weak stuff. The match had sparkled up to that point. It was reported at the time that Triple H felt he should retain so he could drop the belt to Goldberg 'the right way' at Unforgiven a month later, after he'd had time to heal up. The 'right way' was apparently a criminally boring 20 minute match with a crap finish. Triple H really should have let Goldberg take the strap in the Chamber. It was time. Everyone could see it.
