15 Things We Learned From Dark Side Of The Ring: Muhammad Hassan
2. He Had Dark Thoughts After WWE
Marc admits he was really depressed post-WWE. He felt like wrestling had turned its back on him, but readily admits he turned his back on the industry too. One day, after stumbling around with no direction for a few years, Copani came home low on energy and needing sleep. Then, a dangerous thought occurred to him.
“What if you don’t wake up? What difference would it make? What difference do you make? How many days have you wasted?”. That played over and over in his head, and things threatened to get out of control. This one moment was akin to a personal rallying cry for Marc. He realised he had to make serious changes to his life in order to regain happiness, because he couldn't keep thinking about what could've been in WWE.
Revealing this to the world on camera to VICE must've taken a lot of strength. It's likely something Copani has discussed during various interviews over the years since making peace with the end of his pro wrestling dreams, but still - he didn't need to let viewers in like this and could've easily palmed off the WWE departure as 'just one of those things'.
Instead, Marc decided to inspire anyone who's struggling with their own self-worth. What's more, he's been able to use a negative experience as fuel to help others in his day job. Working with young children and helping them achieve their own ambitions has become a form of therapy for Copani, and he's really grateful for that.
Good on him.
