15 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About Vince McMahon
6. McMahon's Million Dollar Mania
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqixTKzByPc Vince McMahon has always been a guy to do anything for ratings. When they were steeply declining in June 2008, he figured he should start giving away money to viewers at home. Yes, that's right: viewers of WWE TV could win $1m by watching Raw. It wasn't just one person that would win it, but it would be spread out over the show. It was called "McMahon's Million Dollar Mania." They really made a big deal out of it with press conferences, press releases and plenty of interviews to get people excited about it. He legitimately gave away money to fans that would simply have to call in with a secret word. Some fans got it wrong. One guy even did a "Rick Roll" to him or maybe it was answering machine. Jim Ross barked "answer your phone you idiot!" Once WWE realized it wasn't really a ratings grabber, they knew they had to pull the plug on it after just three weeks. There was a segment with Vince McMahon on the stage where he was prepared to give away $500,000. Then the set fell on him and he was carted off on a stretcher. They really tried to make it feel real because as he was getting carted away he was calling for "Paul" which is the real first name of Triple H. The whole thing was a bad idea. It was also funny that they knew they had to end it, so they had a set fall on the guy and they wrote him off for months afterward. It wasn't really part of an angle. It was simply a way for Vince to stop giving people his money. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DnUwnoFd3Wc
