15 Things You Didn't Know About WrestleMania (1995 - 2004)

6. WrestleMania 2000 - Chris Jericho's Other Original Plans

Chris Jericho's planned opponents for WrestleMania in 2000, as well as his position on the card, went through a number of changes before the event actually took place. In addition to being removed from the main event for not being deemed yet ready, Jericho's second opponent was changed as he was scheduled to battle X-Pac for the Intercontinental Championship. Jericho had been the Intercontinental Champion up until February's No Way Out and, according to Sean Waltman on a recent episode of The Ross Report podcast, tentative plans called for X-Pac to challenge Jericho for the title at WrestleMania. X-Pac declined, instead wanting to focus on concluding his by then lukewarm feud with Kane,. In a move he obviously has come to regret, Waltman was successful in avoiding the singles match with Jericho and partnered with Road Dogg to face the tag team of Kane and Rikishi in a throwaway outing. Ultimately, Chris Jericho ended up in a Triple Threat Match against Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit in which he captured the European Championship.
