Roman Reigns, John Cena, and 6 others would battle it out in a ladder match to determine who would be the new champ. Online retailer Amazon accidentally leaked an image for the upcoming Summerslam event that had Cena and Lesnar's faces on it so there was little doubt that Cena would walk away the victor.

During the match, there was an impressive segment for Reigns where he went on a series of signature moves to take out all of his opponents, sans Cena. This led to one of the match highlights when he and John had a slow stare-down in the middle of the ring. That was about the only real solid moment for Roman because with 7 other guys there's only so much time to go around for everyone to shine.

The seeds had been planted for a while that Roman was the chosen one to receive a singles push so it was no shocker that he was in this main event title match less than one month after The Shield officially split.
