11. Dean Malenko Was His 'Sensei'

If Psicosis was Rey's 'road wife', as they would (probably) say, then Dean Malenko was his 'sensei'. Rey's first match in WCW was at the Great American Bash PPV in 1996, which he famously didn't know was a PPV until after he'd wrestled, thinking it was just a standard try-out match. The match was against Dean Malenko for his Cruiserweight Championship. Mysterio credits Dead Malenko with teaching him the 'American Style' of wrestling, taking him under his wing and, over the course of their many many battles, giving him the training needed to survive as long as he did in WCW and beyond.
