18 Most Underrated Storylines In WrestleMania History

6. Trish Stratus Vs. Mickie James - WrestleMania 22

Trish Stratus and Mickie James may have been part of the best storyline of the entire WrestleMania 22 build, which was adversely affected by the death of Eddie Guerrero and an injury suffered by Dave Batista two months before the show. Mickie exploded onto the scene in the fall of 2005, portraying an obsessed fan of Stratus. While she understandably wanted to pal around with the beautiful blonde Women's Champion, the way she went about it was often times disconcerting. She went as far as to plant a kiss on Stratus during the holidays, sparking rumors of a forthcoming lesbian angle. When Stratus revealed an on-screen boyfriend, seemed more accepting of Ashley Massaro as her friend and asked James for some much-needed space, the off-kilter Mickie snapped. She betrayed Stratus on an episode of Saturday Night's Main Event, then kidnapped Ashley before assaulting her former idol in the center of the ring. A particularly disturbing moment came when James was kneeling in room backstage, surrounding by images of her supposed idol. "My new obsession...is your destruction", she said creepily, setting the stage for one of the most emotionally-charged 'Mania matches from 2006. Mickie would go on to win the match and the title, using mind games and a shocking crotch grab to throw her opponent off her game and use her own Chick Kick to fell her. A fitting climax for the months-long story.
