18 Ups & 15 Downs For WWE In 2023

DOWNS…

15. (Not) Taking Miz Seriously

Sorry Miz fans, but no matter how many times he reads off his Wikipedia page and lists his accomplishments, it’s utterly impossible to take him seriously.

Miz closed out the year with a babyface turn on the back of being bullied by Gunther, trying unsuccessfully to wrest the Intercontinental Championship away from the Ring General. Some fans heaped praise on Miz for rising to the occasion, while live audiences rallied behind him, sometimes with jingoistic fervor.

But let’s not forget that Miz spent the past several years being little more than a comedy character. One year ago, he was being terrorized by Dexter Lumis in several awful horror-adjacent segments. At WrestleMania 39, he jobbed on both nights to Pat McAfee and Snoop Dogg despite being a host of the event.

Telling fans he’s a two-time Grand Slam champion until he asphyxiates and half-heartedly trying in the ring is not going to suddenly make him a credible wrestler. And one really good performance against Gunther is not going to absolve everything. Pass.
