9. The Ultimate Warrior

As almost everyone who worked with the guy is quick to tell you (or at least was before WWE cleaned up his image), Jim Hellwig was a notoriously difficult person. Between his indifferent attitude toward the business and his surly, unwelcoming demeanor, Warrior didn't have many allies backstage. The person he had the most contentious relationship with was Vince McMahon. At first, Vinnie Mac put a lot of effort into the Warrior project, giving him the WWE Championship at WrestleMania VI.

Unfortunately, Warrior wasn't really the box office sensation McMahon was hoping for, so by Royal Rumble, the plug was pulled on him as the top guy. Indignant about his apparent demotion, in the buildup to SummerSlam 1991, Warrior wrote Vince a letter demanding compensation on the level of Hulk Hogan. McMahon acquiesced to get Warrior to do the show, but immediately after, told Warrior to sod off, writing a reply letter calling him "a star in his own mind."

Seemingly, that was it for Warrior and WWE, but come WrestleMania VII and another Hulk Hogan hiatus, Hellwig was brought back. Things seemed well enough until the looming steroid investigation. Warrior was seen as walking incriminating evidence, and was cut loose in November.

WWE tried one more time to make things work with Warrior in 1996. Appearing as a part-time special attraction, Warrior's deal also included plugs for his godawful comic book. Unfortunately, after no-showing several dates and demanding the company buy 1 million copies of his comic, WWE and Warrior parted ways for the third and final time.
