2 Ups & 5 Downs From AEW Rampage (May 13)
3. The Directionless Action Andretti
JR said on commentary that Action Andretti has to become known for more than just a fluke win over Chris Jericho. That's the problem: AEW has done nothing to make Andretti interesting, or properly explain his goals/aspirations in the promotion. Now, he's dropping matches to tag-team guys on Rampage.
The phrase "going nowhere fast" springs to mind.
Action vs. Kyle Fletcher was far from a bad match, but the setup was all wrong. Andretti, a full-time AEW wrestler, is being pushed aside so Fletcher (an All Elite part-timer who has other business over in Japan and is part of a tag) could score the win and go on to challenge Orange Cassidy.
Nobody in the audience really cared, because they've been given no reason to. Tony Schiavone saying Andretti has some momentum is laughable. He has none, Mr. Schiavone. Zero! AEW does this far too often; 'Hey! Hey! Care about this guy! Why? Dunno. Just do it!'.
