20 Biggest Myths WWE Tells About Its History

19. André The Giant's Undefeated Streak

The Myth: André the Giant was undefeated for 15 years before finally losing to Hulk Hogan.

The Truth: André lost dozens of matches over the years. He lost to Antonio Inoki via TKO in 1976 and by countout in 1978, but we've seen elsewhere that WWE has a blind spot for that dude's achievements.

The big guy lost numerous times in Japan, in fact, although mostly in tag matches. Still a notch in his "L" column, though, even if he wasn't pinned or submitted.

That's one of the variants of this myth, by the way: that the giant hadn't been pinned or made to submit in 15 years. That might be true, though I suspect André did his share of under-the-radar clean jobs before filming shows became commonplace.

However, some versions of the myth have gone so far as claiming that the giant hadn't even been knocked off his feet in that 15-year span. That is utterly ridiculous, especially given what we'll learn later on about André's history of getting slammed.

And no, I'm not talking about the 118 beers story.
