20 Dumbest Gimmick Matches In WCW History

18. War Games II

Don't get me wrong; WarGames is an amazing concept, and pretty much neck-and-neck with the Royal Rumble for greatest gimmick match of all time. Part of makes it work is the elegant simplicity of it all: two squads of guys hate each other so much that they've agreed to enter a gigantic cage, where they will fight until someone is experiencing enough sheer pain or terror to give up. Arn Anderson bleeds everywhere. It's awesome.

Leave WCW to complicate elegant simplicity. The 1998 version fell right in the middle of the WCW/nWo war, so naturally the two sides were WCW, the nWo, and also the nWo. Yes, the Wolfpac was in the house, and if you thought that adding an entire third team to the mix would make everything into a gigantic cluster, just you wait. Although there were dedicated teams, the match could only be won by a single person, who would go on to get a WCW title shot down the line. You know, like teamwork!

After a series of unforgettable moments like the Ultimate Warrior arriving via dry ice teleportation, Hulk Hogan fleeing the arena in cartoonish terror, and several uninterrupted minutes of Stevie Ray, Diamond Dallas Page mercifully took things home with a Diamond Cutter in a forest of unconscious bodies.

Defining Moment: Ultimate Warrior attempting to perform stage magic mid-match.
