There are times in professional sports where, no matter how good a champion is, they simply run into a competitor that is better.

That was the case at NXT TakeOver: Dallas when Bayley, the reigning and defending women's champion, ran into the buzzsaw that is Asuka. Despite finding ways to beat Sasha Banks in consecutive matches, Alexa Bliss, Eva Marie despite screwy officiating and the massive Nia Jax, there was no amount of resourcefulness that could help Bayley defeat the Japanese sensation. At every turn, her offense was cut off by her challenger.

Bayley found herself trapped in an ankle lock. If that is not bad enough, she failed to escape the Asuka Lock, her shoulder nearly ripped out of its socket. Then it happened...the resilient Superstar passed out, the pain too much for her body to handle.

Fans in Dallas went silent, one of the most beloved competitors of her generation dethroned in a way few imagined possible.

It was epic storytelling usually reserved for main events. At the same time, its implementation here solidified the importance of women's wrestling in NXT.
