20 Greatest WWE Women's Matches Since 2000
3. Bayley Vs. Sasha Banks - TakeOver: Respect
History was made at TakeOver: Respect as Bayley and Sasha Banks brought their extraordinary rivalry to a close in the first-ever women's Iron Man match. For 30 minutes, the two performers wowed fans across the globe, exclusively on the WWE Network, with a match best described as an emotional rollercoaster ride.
For one half-hour, the competitors battled for the right to call themselves the elite in women's wrestling in NXT. Banks was beautifully evil, poking the eye of her opponent to score the early advantage and take a 1-0 lead into the second fall. She even relied on a cheap countout to take a 2-1 lead.
As Bayley had done so many times over the course of her career, though, she fought back, refusing to give up the title she worked her entirely life to capture.
With the score tied at two and time running out, Bayley trapped her opponent in a double-arm submission, yanking back on The Boss' fingers in a visually striking moment. From there, she relentlessly kicked her opponent in the face until the challenger had no choice but to tap out.
It was an important moment for Bayley, who showed the ruthless aggression that had been missing from her character to that point.
A legitimate Match of the Year candidate in a year chocked full of them involving the women of NXT, it was very much a coming of age match for Bayley. Was it better than the original bout between the two in Brooklyn? No, but just barely.
What it did was feature the growth of a young performer before the eyes of the WWE Universe and the most satisfying conclusion to a critically acclaimed feud imaginable.
