20 Most Horrifically Stupid Things That Ever Happened In WCW
13. Chucky Has Choice Words For Rick Steiner
In the fall of 1998, WCW arenas would repeatedly play host to an eerie occurrence - the lights would go out and haunting laughter would play over the public address system. Was this a clever way of introducing a new wrestler? After all, Halloween Havoc was right around the corner. Perhaps WCW was getting its own spooky superstar, à la WWE's Undertaker?
The truth was revealed when Rick Steiner, in the midst of a feud with his brother, Scott, came to the ring on Monday Nitro to be interviewed by 'Mean' Gene Okerlund. The interview had barely started when the laughter began to echo through the arena and the Jumbotron screen flickered on, revealing Chucky, the murderous doll from the Child's Play series. Chucky was promoting the latest film in his franchise, Bride of Chucky, and had a few choice words for Rick Steiner, as well. Not only did he guarantee Rick that Scott would be victorious at Halloween Havoc, but he expressed general admiration for Scott - along with a desire to cast him in his next film.
Rick, not one to be intimidated by man or puppet, challenged Chucky to come down to the ring and fight him, man to man. The doll did not comply, and Rick was left with egg on his face. Still, it was the decision-makers at WCW who had the most reason to be ashamed, stretching the limits of credibility beyond what even a wrestling show affords, and generally making everyone watching the product feel a little bit dumber.
