Before signing for WCW, Robert Kellum competed on the independent circuit as 'Gorgeous George II'. The original man, 'Gorgeous' George Wagner was actually Kellum's great uncle, and he was therefore perplexed when WCW started promoting the valet of 'Macho Man' Randy Savage under the name. Those were actually the circumstances which led to the creation of The Maestro. Joining the company, 'The Stro' (as he would become known), was a fairly out of place gimmick for the late-90's. Looking like a model from a children's magic toy play set, Kellum's gimmick was that he was a musical snob. Chastising fans for not appreciating true art, The Maestro was also accompanied by Symphony, played by the same woman who portrayed Ryan Shamrock in the WWF. The gimmick was short-lived, and Kellum has since said that WCW didn't really have many plans for him after he signed a contract. At SuperBrawl 2000, even the late, great James Brown was wheeled out in a segment involving The Maestro and Ernest 'The Cat' Miller. Shortly after this, The Maestro was no more, but he has wrestled on the independent circuit ever since.
